Classic Selection

For my book club our next pick is for each of us to choose a different classic literature book. I narrowed my choice down to 2 books, but thought I would ask the opinions of anyone who might happen to come across my blog (I know I don't have regular followers, but I also know some of you are regular readers).  So tell me what you think I should read and why.

Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck

I eventually would like to read both, but because I am slow I only have time for one book before our next meeting.  And if you haven't read either of the above books, but have another classic favorite, give me your pitch for why I should read your favorite. ...and hurry because I have GOT to get reading!

Hmmm, it has been a long time. I have never read a Tale of Two Cities, but I have read Grapes of wrath. To be honest I can't remember a thing about it.

I liked Great Expectations, The Secret Garden, Adventures of Huck Finn off the top of my head. To be honest I can only read a classic every once in a while because they are really hard to get into. I guess I'm not incredibly cultured. So if I were you, I would read a Tale of Two Cities. I think Dickens is one of the more palatable classical writers (call me crazy but I'm not much for Jane Austen- I have tried I promise) But my life goal is to read Les MIserables. I have never seen the play but would love to read the book before I do. Good luck!

I love Grapes of Wrath! Many have told me they think it is too slow, but I really enjoyed it. I have never read A tale of two cities, but have seen it on stage. It is more sad. Either would be great I'm sure, but I recommend Grapes.
